LIT Overview

Not available in Florida at this time.

Our LEADERS IN TRAINING (LIT) Program had a wonderful first summer and we are gearing up again!

Our LIT program combines Leadership & Science where LITs will gain hands-on leadership experience. It is ideal for Destination Science camp graduates, future campus leaders, student body officers or any student entering 7th through 10th grade by fall 2010, who is seeking valuable leadership skills that are vital for success in high school & college!

The corner stone of the program is the Leadership Retreat with Jill Esplin, a dynamic speaker, facilitator, and motivator of teens using her ability to inspire them. Click here to learn more about Jill.

Being involved with Destination Science as an LIT is a serious commitment.  There is a strong responsibility to each camper and as an LIT we trust that you will meet the following program guidelines:

  • Responsible for your own actions
  • Present self as a leader & role model to youth
  • Respect teachers, fellow LIT’s & campers
  • To give your best at all times

The first step in the process is to select the correct application below.

**Note: All applications for LIT must be done using the downloadable application. Online registration is not available.

The second step is to fill out the application and obtain the necessary references.

  • The application is in a writable PDF format so you will be able to download and complete the application without printing.
  • For directions on how to format your file name and how to easily enter your answers click on the yellow speech bubble in the top left corner of the first page.
  • A writable PDF of the reference questionnaire only is available if you would like to e-mail it to your references. (Note: Returning applicants do not need a written reference.)
The LIT program is not available at the following camp locations: Hillscrest Center in Thousand Oaks, Los Olivos, Pasadena, Scripps Ranch, Westwood, West Hollywood.

The third step is to submit the completed application via fax, mail or e-mail.

  • Applications will be accepted through:
**May 14th, 2010 - Northern California for the June 5 training
**June 18th, 2010 - Southern California for the July 17 training
** The application deadline has passed for the May 22 Southern California training.
  • Applications will be reviewed in the order that they are received.  An application will not be complete until all references are received.
  • Once applicants are accepted, they will be placed at their location of preference for their preferred week(s) on a first come first serve basis so get your applications in as soon as possible!

After the application is reviewed parents will receive an e-mail informing them of their LIT’s acceptance into the program.

  • At that time our staff will confirm location & weeks of placement and obtain payment information.

Program fees

  • $199.00 for the leadership retreat & materials
and
  • $50 per week of camp (up to 3 weeks)
